About us
Boots Boerboels consists of a young enthusiastic couple that is absolutely crazy about the Boerboel. We grew up with dogs and in 2013 we got our first Boerboel male 'Sef'. We were immediately in love with the breed because of its impressive appearance and reliable character. In 2017 we decided to bring in a female 'Fiep', to fulfill our passion.
The Boerboel
What is a Boerboel?
A Boerboel is a large dog that belongs to the 'mastiff' family. It is a South African mastiff that takes its name from the farmers who used it to protect their land. It is not a pet but can really be considered as a full-fledged family member. As a guard dog there is no better, we would even dare to say that a Boerboel functions better than an alarm system!
Character
They are intelligent dogs with a very social and reliable character. They have a big heart for family, friends and acquaintances. The Boerboel instinctively senses certain situations with the aim of protecting the family and the house. This also works well with children and other animals within the family. They are self-confident and fearless.
Education
Some experience with dogs is desirable, as well as taking one or more courses with the puppy. Being consistent in education is very important. A Boerboel needs clear rules and these must be enforced consistently. Having a garden and sufficient living space are also conducive to the well-being of the Boerboel. Socializing at a young age is very important. We have been attentive to this in the first 8 weeks of the puppy, but socializing continues at home. Puppy training is a good way to train social behaviour and obedience. This will benefit you and your Boerboel for life.
Growth cycle
The puppies will grow to the maximum to the withersheight in about a year. In this period it is desirable not to exercise too much (cycling, climbing stairs, jumping, etc.). Then they will grow in width until their 3rd year. The character is also formed during this period. In the first and second years, the Boerboel is in it's adolescent phase. This can be a frustrating time, after all the hard work you've put into the puppy and follow-up courses. It is important to remain very consistent throughout the period. Reward them every now and then for good behavior to increase their self-esteem and make sure they can release their energy in a positive way. Do not give up; this 'phase' will also pass!
Why a Boots Boerboels puppy?
Purebred dogs
Our mission is to produce pedigree dogs with an excellent social character and beautiful external characteristics with satisfied owners as a goal. We only breed dogs with a pedigree and are affiliated with the official 'South African Boerboel Breeders Society' (SABBS).
Socialization
The socialization process starts from the moment our puppies are born. This is very important in the first life stages of the puppies and the formation of their character. We therefore pay close attention to this.
Veterinarian
All puppies are checked by the vet at birth. They are all provided with a chip and passport. The puppies are also dewormed and when they are 6 weeks old they receive the first (puppy) vaccination.
A puppy from Boots Boerboels
The decision is made!
After getting to know us and our dogs, you (and we) are convinced that the Boerboel suits you and your family. You have chosen to be on the registration list for a puppy from Boots Boerboels. The choice for a male or female has been discussed and recorded in advance, as well as the order of choice.
Birth
And then the moment arrives that everyone has been looking forward to for so long: they are born!
Of course everyone is eager to come and have a look, but the first few weeks they are still too small and prone to diseases that we do not allow anyone with the puppies. Mother and puppies receive 24-hour care from us and need a lot of rest.
Webcam
The first days of their lifes the puppies are blind, deaf and they cannot walk yet. From week 2, the eyes and ears open slowly and from week 2-3 they take the first 'steps'. To let you enjoy the first weeks, you can log in on the webcam.
To admire
And then… Yes! week 4 has arrived. You can (by appointment) visit and admire the puppies and cuddle and play with them.
Choice moment
When the puppies are 7 weeks old, you choose which puppy will become your new family member. We will also give you a 'puppy manual' so that you can prepare well for the following week.
Leave nest
In week 8 they are ready to leave for their new home. Bring a blanket, guarding leash and water with you if you come from far away and make sure you have all the necessities at home. Of course your puppy will miss its familiar environment; the nest, its mother and the presence of its siblings. So it is very important to stay at home, especially during the first week/weeks. This way it can get used to its new surroundings and will bond with its new owners.
Aftercare
Do you have any questions? Is your puppy not doing well? And do you need any help? Do not hesitate to contact us, so we can see together how we can tackle the situation together.
Our Pack
JALA SEF
Parents: Jala Guusje (85,7% SABBS) x Diamond Ties (87,3% SABBS)
Gender: Male
Born on: May 2, 2013
SABBS appraisal score: 86.2%
Sef is a big friendly giant that likes to get everyone's attention outside. Because of his reliable head and sweet look, children always come up to him and ask us if they can pet him. As his wagging tail suggests, he loves this. He is also very good with other dogs. Big or small, shy or dominant, Sef doesn't care! Whichever the shape or size, Sef always remains friendly. His guard instinct emerges on his own property. The moment a cyclist passes by the backyard, the 'gentle' man sprints to the gate and lets himself be heard. Just as much indoors. Have someone rung the bell unexpectedly at night? Sef will protect you.

Gender: Bitch

Fiep is still young and a lot more playful than Sef. In addition, she is a lot more dominant (a real lady). You will also notice this in the outdoor environment. Her back hairs stand upright when someone, with or without a dog, walks by. Protection urge. When we socialize with the person or animal in question, everything is fine and she is completely enthusiastic. She likes to walk and run long stretches. Fiep is a real water rat just like Sef. In this case she turns out to be a bit more affectionate. After all this playing around Fiep will be very relaxed and affectionate. All she wants now is a nice cuddle!
